Mandatory evacuation

Around 2:00 P.M., I left the house with Brody to go get something to eat. I made a left turn out of my neighborhood instead of  a right but I am so glad I did. As I came to the intersection of  Buffalo Soldier, I noticed another fire that just began across the street on Fort Huachuca. I turned right and then made a circle and went back home because the way the winds were blowing it would of came straight to us.  I called and texted Cory but he said he would call me later. I was getting a little nervous but I checked the Monument Fire facebook page and everyone was saying that it was a controlled burn on post so I relaxed.  I put Brody in his highchair and made him ravioli when I heard someone talking on an intercom outside. I ran outside and Border Patrol were going up and down the street saying, "Mandatory evacuation. Leave now."  Well when I first came home and saw the fire, I got two bags and put important papers, pictures, camera/video camera just in case. I ran inside and got Brody and grabbed 3 diapers, wipes and a box of hair dye (don't know why just did) and the bags and put them in the car. I then ran back inside and carried both dogs out in their kennels and hurried around to find Brody's shoes. There were a lot of people rushing around outside. I didn't even lock the door! I was so scared but remained calm.  Pulling out of my street was crazy because there were so many cars trying to leave the area. I finally got to Wal- Mart but I still hadn't talked to Cory, who was still on post working.  He heard that his street was being evacuated and left without telling anyone and was nervous because he was trying to get home but all the roads were blocked off and he couldn't get a hold of me! It was pure chaos for about 2 hours but the amazing firefighters were able to contain the fire within 2 hours!

this was heading straight toward us

this was less than 1/2 a mile from us

this is my neighborhood when the fire first started

the intersection down the street...

Reports are that the fire started because soldiers on the fort were digging a line just in case the Monument fire reached there and a bulldozer hit a rock which caused a spark and thus the fire started.  That just shows you how dry it is out here! We need rain desperately!

We are still not out of the woods because the Monument fire is still going and winds are supposed to be worse through the weekend.

Didn't think it could get worse...

but it did...

After I posted yesterday about the fire, things got much worse. Homes were exploding and the fire jumped highway 92. Many homes have been destroyed and the fire is only 10% contained.  It is so sad to see our beautiful mountains on fire but it is amazing to see our small community coming together in this time of devastation.

When the fire exploded and jumped 92.

Too close to home

Our beautiful state of Arizona is on fire.  There are wildfires all over the state and the Wallow fire is the largest wildfire this state has ever had burning more than 470,000 acres and still burning.  I have been praying for the firefighters and families that have been affected by these fires. However, now it means more because on Sunday a fire started in Coronado National Memorial just south of us. It is about 20 mins away but so close.  Cory and I went up there a lot when we first moved here and when I was pregnant but we have not been up there for awhile.  Hoping that they get this fire contained soon!

MONSOON SEASON CANNOT COME SOON ENOUGH!

18 months pictures

We got Brody's 18 month pictures done by the same person who did his one year and cake smash pictures, Ashley Elicio.  She does such an amazing job and I love her pictures! I think they came out awesome! It was a lot harder this time because he walks and is a toddler and wanted to explore! She was so patient and captured his little personality!
